The soulful and sultry voice of 26 year old country singer Alex Hughes is undeniably unique, her talent remarkable and her performances will leave you wanting more. Her crossover appeal has won over fans of all ages and her songs showcase her youth, energy and depth. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Alex grew up in a large family surrounded by music, entertainment and culture. She found a love for music at a very young age and becoming a singer/songwriter was inevitable.

Alex started performing at the age of 7 and quickly stood out as a voice to be noticed. She won the first singing competition she ever entered and was rewarded with two tickets on West Jet anywhere in Canada and a shiny new bike. Alex continued to perform as much as possible throughout her youth at school in talent shows and in province wide talent searches. She won the Calgary Junior Idol competition at the age of 14 and subsequently recorded her first song in studio. She was also chosen as a top 100 gold ticket holder in Canadian Idol at just 16 years old.


In 2005, The Calgary Stampede talent search garnered Alex the “Don Weldon Memorial Award" as Most Promising Performer. A long association with the Calgary Stampede took her to stages throughout the province of Alberta. Alex has been an integral part of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth with performances on the Calgary Stampede Float as well as the entertainment Caravan for many years.

In 2009, Alex won the open division of the Country Vocal Spotlight in Edmonton and then went on to win the Global Country Star Search. She performed at various venues during the Canadian Finals Rodeo and travelled to Nashville where she was a multiple award winner at the 2009 and 2010 North American Country Music Association International Awards. While in Nashville, she sang in some of the iconic city’s most famous bars such as Tootsies and Legends.

In 2010 Alex was sponsored by The Alberta Dodge Dealers. Their partnership has allowed Alex to expand her fan base with CD giveaways, radio spots and performances. Over 50,000 copies of her first original CD were distributed through various promotions with The Alberta Dodge Dealers at rodeos and events all over the province.


Alex sang the national anthem at The Canadian Finals rodeo at Rexall Place in 2011 and was so well received she was asked back for the 2012 and 2013 performances. She has sung her own original songs during the intermission at Oil Kings games at Rexall Place and sang the national anthem for both the Calgary Hitman and the Calgary Flames. Alex also sang the American National Anthem at the Sheraton Bowl Pre-Party for thousands of football fans on Waikiki Beach.

Other amazing performance opportunities for Alex have included opening spots for Gary Fjelgard and George Canyon, performing alongside Grammy award winner Walter Afanasieff for charity events and Hollywood parties, and singing at the very famous “House of Blues” on sunset strip in Los Angeles.

Alex is gearing up for a busy 2017, with live performances with her band, as a duo with pianist Hugo McLaughlin and as a solo acoustic artist. She is also working on the release of a new single for country radio in Fall 2017.
