June 3, 2025 (Toronto, ON) – Following its strategic evolution earlier this year, Phase Entertainment Group proudly announces its first new artist signing under its expanded banner: Alex Hughes, rising pop-country act from Calgary, Alberta. The signing marks a promising next step for the company’s commitment to developing and elevating exceptional talent out of Western Canada.
Hughes will make her Phase debut with new single “Break All The Way,” out June 20. Produced and engineered by Dan Swinimer (Jojo Mason, Madeline Merlo), the single is penned by a powerhouse trio – Madeline Merlo, Jason Saenz, and Todd Clark – and offers a compelling first glimpse into the next chapter of Hughes’ career. “I’ve been a fan of Alex’s ever since we met during Calgary’s prestigious artist development program, Project Wild,” says Jeff Ojeda, Founder of Phase Entertainment Group. “She is an incredible artist, singer and person, and I’m just so excited for the world to hear these new records.”
Since expanding its services in January to include full-scale management, agency representation, sync licensing, and label operations, Phase has celebrated a string of major milestones. This includes the release of Kyle McKearney’s third studio album To The River, and a successful Western Canada tour, which saw multiple sold-out dates, solidifying McKearney’s position as one of the country’s most exciting genre-bending artists.
Now, the company turns its focus to Hughes – an artist equally grounded in Alberta’s creative community and poised for national breakthrough.
“I’ve taken my time in signing my next artist to follow up McKearney’s success,” Ojeda adds. “I can’t wait for the world to fall in love with these records like I have and for everyone to see how talented Alex Hughes truly is.”
With a distinct blend of country heart and pop polish, Hughes has spent the last several years building a loyal fanbase in Western Canada. Her previous releases have earned widespread acclaim across DSPs, including a cover spot on Apple Music’s Canada’s Country playlist, as well as editorial support from Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube. The two-time CMAB Horizon Female Artist of the Year nominee has shared stages with icons like Megan Moroney, Josh Ross, Ashley McBryde, and Babyface, proving her cross-genre appeal and live performance power.
As the first new artist to join the Phase roster since its expansion, Hughes represents both an expansive new direction for the company and the evolving landscape of country music in Canada. |
